Chris Hodson MA Dip Arch (Cantab) RIBA
Chris was born in 1953 into a building industry family - the fifth generation of continuous involvement in construction and building products. He read architecture at the University of Cambridge, where he came into contact with some of the UK’s most influential architects. He is a registered architect and a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
Having initially worked for a commercial firm as project architect on large social housing, industrial and commercial schemes, Chris set up his own architectural practice concentrating more on refurbishment and regeneration across building types ranging from health, leisure and hotels to individual homes and conservation. His broad architectural experience covers all stages from master-planning and design, through to construction and contract administration. He has also been a board member of property development and estate agency companies, and an innovation centre for new business start-ups and mentoring. Although he no longer practises as an architect, Chris remains closely involved with all areas of the construction industry through his established network of contacts. Because of this breadth of experience he has been described as a ‘building industry guru’, particularly in the field of construction products.
Since his time at University, Chris has also been involved with new building product development – designing, patenting and licensing several himself, and gaining valuable experience in intellectual property issues and market development. This experience highlighted the gulf between the construction products industry and its customers, leading to his continuing passion for improving understanding and communications between specifiers and producers. In 1986 Chris formed Hodsons as a dedicated communications and marketing agency for the building industry. Initially running in parallel with his architectural firm, Hodsons has been his sole business focus for over a decade.
